Jörg Wittek, as Vice President, heads the R&D Secondary department in the Körber Business Area Technologies.

How has product development changed for us in recent years?

Jörg Wittek: In parallel with market developments, our product development focuses on increasingly diverse topics. The significance of standard solutions is steadily decreasing in favor of customer-specific developments, especially in the Tobacco Heating Products (THP) sector, where significantly more development projects take place than in the traditional cigarette area. All major manufacturers are constantly testing new products and markets in this area. Modular machine concepts such as our Multi Segment Maker (HAUNI MSM) are therefore particularly in demand.

What do these changes mean for the specific development process?

Jörg Wittek: Besides expertise and enthusiasm for innovation, communicative skills and modern project management methods are more crucial than ever today. Development processes involve an intensive dialogue with you as the customer. From the initial idea to the prototype and the final production line, our project management closely accompanies you, continually exchanging information about goals, interim results and challenges.

How does this change the relationship with you as a customer?

Jörg Wittek: In the development process, such projects often redefine customer relationships and deepen collaboration. In the THP segment, many solutions are built for the first time – that's where our company becomes a true development partner for the tobacco industry. We engage much earlier in the development processes of our customers today. Especially with our laboratory expertise, we are optimally positioned: we can test the end products produced on our machines on-site at any time.
